俄罗斯紧急情况部在库尔斯克处置约200个液氯钢瓶
The containers, one hundred kilograms each, were accidentally discovered in one of the warehouses of a Kursk enterprise. They have been there since Soviet times. To disarm and neutralize them, local rescuers turned to specialists from the Leader center, who have the appropriate experience and equipment.
16 employees and 6 units of equipment for managing radiation, chemical and biological protection of the center, headed by Anatoly Lushnikov, were sent to the Kursk Region.
Before disposal began, rescuers created a special bath from a standard sea container and filled it with a solution of soda ash. A platform was made above it, where specialists from the EMERCOM of Russia, wearing special protective suits, depressurized the cylinders using a hydraulic tool and then sent them into this container for about a day. As a result of the chemical reaction, sodium chloride was formed - essentially table salt and water. Degassing of the cylinders was controlled by chemical reconnaissance devices, and the acidity level was measured. Then the cylinders were removed from the bath by a robotic complex. Taking into account all the conditions created, it was possible to fill 20 cylinders per day. Personnel were required to undergo special treatment when leaving the gas-contaminated area.
Chlorine is a chemically hazardous substance; it is a poisonous gas of yellow-green color with a sharp suffocating odor, which in high concentrations affects the mucous membranes and can cause burns and suffocation. It was chlorine that was one of the first chemical warfare agents used in the First World War.
The acting head of EMERCOM Main Office for the Kursk Region, Ivan Starovoyt, thanked the specialists of the Leader Center for their work, presented the rescuers with thanks and noted their high level of skill in performing the assigned tasks.
